Welcome to all our 600 WIJ members to our fantastic 2018-19 programme, which is bigger and better than ever. We are delighted to be launching a new series of ‘In Conversation’ evenings featuring Laura Kuenssberg, Kath Viner, Alison Philips, Mishal Husain and Anne Robinson, and our career-enhancing seminar panels include top female talent such as Amelia Gentleman and Carole Cadwalladr.
We’ll be rounding off the year in style with our legendary Christmas party on December 11 at NEWS UK.
The WiJ mentoring programme is industry-acclaimed and will be continuing next year with the formal programme as well as a special speed mentoring event. Since we launched it three it years ago, 150 mentees have taken part in the scheme
We will also be inviting applications for the 2018 Georgina Henry award for innovation, currently held by the brilliant Jem Collins to help her with her extremely useful project www.journoresources.org.uk, a mine of information about journalism jobs, salaries and rates.
Information about all our upcoming events is available on the events page at our newly revamped website http://womeninjournalism.co.uk/events/
We hope you will agree that our committee, led by Eleanor Mills, does a great job in curating. promoting and running these events – all on a voluntary basis. We keep our ticket prices as low as possible to encourage everyone at all levels of the industry to take part, from students to industry veterans. WIJ members are also able to attend events organised by our sister organisations, including the Journalists Charity and the London Press Club, as well as invitation-only film screenings.
As members you contribute hugely to our success as a networking organisation. The friendly, supportive atmosphere at all our events and your willingness to share your knowledge and expertise are invaluable.
We hope you will understand that for the first time in 15 years we are increasing our annual membership (inc joining fee) to £45 a year by direct debit with effect from November 1, 2018 – and that this is incredible value for money. Tickets for students will be at reduced rates, but we will no longer be offering student membership.
