Finance and business journalism is one of the most buoyant areas of the industry, but it’s woefully short of women. In response, Women in Journalism teamed up with Bloomberg to launch this joint initiative to change the situation.
A panel of leading women in the sector and beyond spoke about what it takes to succeed at the launch event. They were:
Chair: Eleanor Mills, WIJ chair and editorial director of the Sunday Times.
· Helena Morrissey – CEO Newton Investment and founder of the 30 per cent Club and Opportunity Now
· Emma Ross-Thomas – London Bureau chief, Bloomberg News
· Sarah Sands – editor, Evening Standard
· Kiki Loizou – Sunday Times, Business News
Comment from the day:
Just wanted to say I really enjoyed the event last night – really interesting to hear so many perspectives on and experiences of financial journalism.
Definitely scope for another panel on that topic. I was interested to hear so many young women ask me about how to deal with sexist comments from sources.
Several talked to me for about half an hour and I offered to be a sounding board for them
I attended your event last night on Women in Financial Journalism and really enjoyed it. I’ve just sent off my membership forms and hope to be involved in more events in the future.
It was a really good event.
