Georgina Henry Award

Applications for the 2024 prize are now closed

Women in Journalism is proud to support the brightest new ideas with an annual £4,000 prize sponsored by Wiggin LLP, in memory of the Guardian’s late deputy editor, Georgina Henry, also a former Women in Journalism chair.

The prize is used to support an initiative by the applicant. Applicants can be any age, working in either print or multimedia and the winner will also join the WiJ committee, and become an honorary Women in Journalism Fellow.

The judges will look for evidence of impactful journalism and real innovation either through new ideas or principles. Entries can include work from any journalistic discipline, including those working in video, audio, and written journalism.

“Women in Journalism has been proud to run the Georgina Henry Award for almost ten years now, supporting a wide range of innovative reporting and projects. Every year we look forward to seeing new ideas and new ways of doing things that push our industry forward. I’d really encourage any woman working in journalism to put an entry in, we’d love to hear from you.” Rachel Corp, Women in Journalism Chair.

“This prize is a real showcase for what female journalists can do, with so many producing great work while supporting others in the industry too. Those who have won or been shortlisted in the past provide a roll call to all of us who believe in the power of journalism and great ideas to make a difference. Every year since its launch the Georgina Henry award has been a pleasure to judge and I’m looking forward to seeing more great entries this year.” Jane Martinson, Georgina Henry Award Judge.

Previous winners testimony:

“The Georgina Henry award changed my life. Here’s how to give it your best shot.” By Jem Collins, Journo Resources founder

“It’s difficult to pinpoint the exact moment Journo Resources switched from being a passion project on the side to an actual organisation with the capacity to help a lot of people. But, if I had to pick just one, it would be winning Women in Journalism’s (WiJ) Georgina Henry Award in 2018.” Says Jem Collins in her latest article for journo resources.
