Women in Journalism appoints next Chair

Women in Journalism welcomes new Chair Rachel Corp.

At an event in the Terrace Pavilion at the House of Commons for women journalists and politicians Rachel Corp was announced as the new Chair of Women in Journalism.

The evening was hosted by Lucy Powell, MP who shared her belief that women’s networks help make progress possible. Many thanks to our event sponsors Walkers for making the night possible.

Rachel spoke about the progress that had been made for women during her career and how now as the CEO of ITN, she wants to keep pushing for more change.

She spoke about her own mother’s feminist activism in the media in the 60s and the impression it had made on her.

“I am delighted to be picking up the baton from a long line of inspiring chairs and am very honoured to be working with Women in Journalism to help tackle the remaining barriers to progression in our industry.”

- Rachel Corp, Women in Journalism Chair and ITN CEO

Outgoing Chair Alison Phillips, spoke to her three years in the role and the honour it has been. She praised the committee for their support, and recognised the progress that we have made for our members. Whilst remembering the need for ever more diversity in all its facets to ensure everyone’s stories are shared in the media, there is more work to do.

“It was a pleasure to work with Alison as she has been very committed to moving WiJ forward. I am also looking forward to working with Rachel again, she hired me at 5News for my first national news reading gig. I have always found her to be focused on diversity and inclusion, she has great vision and we’re all looking forward to having her at the helm.”

- Genelle Aldred, Women in Journalism Deputy Chair

Rachel’s career record speaks for itself, she has worked at ITN for over three decades, from working extensively in the field in the UK and around to editor of ITV News London, 5News and then ITV News before becoming CEO. Her Chairship will see Women in Journalism build on its core work for members that has been at the heart of all we do for over 30 years.
